Human Impact on the Deep Sea: Don’t Block the Knowledge

When I read the report the other day that scientists found that crustaceans living in the Mariana Trench have extremely high levels of PCBs in them, I was not surprised, and then I felt down for a few hours.  It seems that no place on our water planet is untouched by human activity.   Add to that the giant trash gyres in our oceans, radioactive material, and other forms of human-caused pollution, and it all adds up to a sad and gloomy picture.

What’s remarkable to me is that I can sit by the ocean and see wondrous beauty, and if I block the pollution knowledge from my brain, life can sure seem good.

Why block it though?
