About an hour before arriving to Las Marias by foot after five hours of hiking, we happened upon a work in progress in the middle of the La Mosquitia rainforest of Honduras. No owner was around, but the story went that when you find a good tree, you dig it out on the spot, less weight to carry to the river. The river access was a portage of probably an hour or so. The wood chips around the canoe would be used for firemaking.
