The only way into the remote regions of Honduras’ La Mosquitia is by foot, boat, or plane, if you can arrange and afford it. To get to Las Marias, we hiked six hours after busing, flying and taking a boat across a lagoon, more than a day’s journey from Tegucigalpa to Trujillo (bus) to the Caribe coast (prop plane) to the trailhead (boat) to the village (feet) in 1999.
This photo reminds me of the need to get away from distractions every now and then, to disconnect and truly connect again.
