After a 40 something degree Tuesday of spotty, cold rain, Earth Day rose up with some sunshine and temps near 60, though a steady northwestern wind threw in some wind chill factor.
If you take N. 9th Street out of town it turns into N. 9th St. Road and makes a beeline for Battleground, passing Prophetstown along the way. Perhaps you saw the recent episode of PBS’ We Shall Remain that told the story of Tecumseh and his brother, Prophet. My ride went through the battle site where the native peoples clashed with William Henry Harrison’s U.S. army soldiers.

No matter which direction you ride in Indiana, you ride into a headwind. Or, so it seems. And if not a headwind, it’s a crosswind.

It was Earth Day, and I was determined to find a tree to hug. While passing through the park area, none of the trees called out for some lovin’.

I went into town and then back out, taking the back road–Prophet’s Road–over to Prophet’s Rock because there are two itty bitty hills that cause the legs to tighten up a little.

Prophet’s Rock kind of has the feel of a cave, and likely has some sweet bouldering problems to send. I dismounted to empty my bladder, and ended up hugging a tree too.

The clock was ticking along, and I had a burrito and beer “meeting” that I had to get to. Pedaling back into town, the Wabash River was looking fine. John Denver floated off the breeze and landed on my tongue:
Celebrate Earth Day, Every Day
Celebrate Land and Sea, Celebrate You and Me
Celebrate Earth Day, Every Day
