A Winter Walk with Wang Wei on My Mind

Snowshoeing up Sunset Trail, I thought of Wang Wei.  It had been more than three years since I last walked on the snow, but not quite that long since I  opened Laughing Lost in the Mountains, with translation by Tony and Willis Barnstone and Xu Haixin:

“I’ve wanted to know how to meditate for so long

now I walk a path redolent with [winter].”*

*I changed the translation from “spring” to “winter,” from the poem Visiting the Cloister of Meditation Master Fu.
