R.I.P. — Dirt Rag Magazine

Dirt Rag Magazine announced yesterday that they are shutting down operations. Gone. The Pittsburgh-based mountain biking magazine that’s been around for 30 years is dead.

Dammit.

Growing up in PA, I remember seeing it in bike shops when I first started mountain biking 25 years ago. I had subscriptions here and there over the years. Many years later, I was able to get several articles in the print pages and online. For me, seeing my writing in Dirt Rag was a bit mind boggling. Need to say: The editors were always easy to work with … and they paid me in a reasonable time (!), unlike other media outlets.

Dirt Rag was different, kind of like the punk rock of mountain biking magazines. I’m really bummed to see it go.

Cheers to Dirt Rag

Yeah I am a WV MTBer, and that is some terrible news. It appears Dirt Rag Fest will continue in spirit, just not under the name, Dirt Rag Fest.

The spirit of DR will live on, as long as we keep it alive!
