Friday Evening in Tecate, Mexico

A few Fridays ago I went to Tecate to pass the evening, thinking before I went:  I wonder what sleepy little Tecate town is like on an ordinary Friday evening?

As with nearly all towns around Latin America, go to the central park and you’ll get the pulse.  On this evening, the town was celebrating the end of summer arts classes.  Students and their parents, as well as brothers, sisters, extended family members, gathered at the park to hear positive words about the importance of art in developing the human being.

Dance, photography, painting, music, drawing, ceramics, and on and on and on …

The students received certificates for their completed courses.  I received warmth, the kind that rests deep.

We are more alike than we are unalike.  Let’s not stop saying that, nor reminding ourselves of it.  And, let’s celebrate the differences.
